Amanda Whittington has been described
as Britain's 'most consistently popular female dramatist' (The
Guardian'). Her plays include Be My Baby, which was originally
produced by Soho Theatre and is regularly produced throughout the UK.
It is published by Nick Hern Books and is studied for both GCSE and
A-Level. Ladies Day and its sequel Ladies Down Under (Hull Truck/UK
Tours) are also widely performed throughout the country.
Amanda's recent work includes Amateur
Girl (Hull Truck), an adaptation of Saturday Night & Saturday
Morning (New Perspectives), Satin ‘n’ Steel (Nottingham
Playhouse/ Bolton Octagon), Bollywood Jane (Leicester Haymarket/West
Yorkshire Playhouse) and The Wills’ Girls (Tobacco Factory,
Bristol). Amanda has four plays published by Nick Hern Books and
writes regularly for BBC Radio 4, contributing to the Woman's Hour
serial and Afternoon Play slots. Her radio work includes adaptations
of Ladies Day, The Wills’ Girls and Be My Baby as well as original
plays including The Nine Days Queen and Paradise Place, to be
broadcast November 2010.
